Our Alpaca Herd - first class alpacas at Pistyll Gwyn in Talog, near Carmarthen

Blanco is the youngest of our four geldings, and is Olive's half-brother. (Bozedown Tudor is their dad).

He is the most curious of the alpacas and will happily rub noses with us, and occasionally try to nibble hair or a jumper.

Heulwen's first

Diamond is our most mellow alpaca, and something of a good-time girl, we reckon.

She has proved to be fantastic mum, and loves a splash about when it's hot. We bought her a swimming pool (sort of).

Dylan is a handsome stud male - the first offspring of the mighty Bozedown Patriot - grand champion at the BAS show 2007, and Jolimont Lavender, from Australia's top alpaca farm.

With excellent genetics behind him we have high hopes for Dylan, and if all goes well he will be available for stud in 2012 at market rates.

Heulwen is a large, strongly built alpaca with excellent fleece and strong genetics. She's inherited a lot of her characteristics from her sire - Orion of Bozedown - giving her a lot of presence.

She's a strong character, too, and is already making a play for the top spot in the herd, so we think she'll make a good leader for a starter herd. 

Heulwen was mated to Pistyll Gwyn Dylan last summer (son of award-winning Bozedown Patriot and Jolimont Lavender), so this is an excellent opportunity to bring Bozedown and Jolimont genetics into youe herd.

Fantastic little chap - extremely lively and inquisitive.

Queen Lavender appears to be in charge here. None of the others will cross her.

She has mellowed a lot since arriving at Pistyll Gwyn last year, and appears to trust us a bit more now.

She doesn't seem to be as instinctive a mum as Diamond, but has given us two wonderful cria so far, Dylan and Molly.

Beautiful brilliant white cria, hnece the name lleu (pronounced 'thlay') which means 'light' or 'bright'.

Such a sweet cria.

We didn't think she would make it at first as she had a couple of rocky days at the start, but now she is bounding about, charming everyone, even Walter and Tyler.

Olive is a beautiful alpaca with a wonderful fleece and strong genetics. She's inherited a lot of her fleece characteristics from her sire - Tudor of Bozedown - and her elegant build from her mother, Diamond. 

She's a very friendly, amiable alpaca, and gets on well with any new arrivals.

Last year, Olive was mated to Pistyll Gwyn Dylan (son of award-winning Bozedown Patriot and Jolimont Lavender), so we're expecting her first cria in August.

Silky is very conscious of the herd - always on the alert and the alpaca most likely to give the alarm signal.

He is also a very careful and loving foster dad to the cria.

We sometimes think of him as the herd shaman.

Along with Silky he is one of the herd's watchmen. Very curious.

You will often see him sitting well away from the rest of the herd, but always looking out.

He does like his own company, and tends not to get involved with the cria, except Molly of course, whom no-one can resist!

Caerthan's pride and joy. He wears his spectacular suri fleece with great style.

He's probably the most stand-offish, as far as humans are concerned, but withing the herd he can be very assertive.
